His impactful work extends to multicriteria optimisation research, contributing to a broader sustainability perspective. With a Doctorate in Sustainability Studies from the University of Piraeus, Alexander is driving positive change in the shipping industry through his multifaceted approach and dedication to environmental responsibility.

Bio: KYRIAKOS MAHOS holds a Dr.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, a M.Sc. in Petroleum Refining & Petrochemistry from Oil & Gas Institute of Romania, and an MBA from Athens School of Economics. For the last 12 years he has been working at LEVANTE FERRIES as HSQE Director, DPA & CSO. He’s responsible for company’s Safety Management System, which includes PMS. He’s also in charge of all Flag & Class Surveys, Dry Dockings, Bunkers & Lubricants Quality Monitoring, GHG Emissions Monitoring & Reporting, Business Plans and Feasibility Studies. He has participated in several EU-funded research projects. He's a member of several Maritime Associations, including AMMITEC and HIMT.

Erik van Ballegooijen, Director R&D, VAF Instruments
Bio: Erik van Ballegooijen, Director R&D of VAF Instruments, is responsible for VAF solution, sensor and software development, and for providing customer consultancy on ship propulsion performance. This all around ship fuel efficiency, environmental compliance, and data analysis. Van Ballegooijen holds 2 Master degrees in Engineering. After graduation he worked for 18 years at Wärtsilä Propulsion, started as a ship propeller designer (hydrodynamicist), and later headed several international engineering, project management and R&D departments. Since 2015 he is the Director R&D of VAF Instruments and part of the VAF management team.
